We had our regular Thursday appointments at SCCA today and it turned out to be a milestone day! We started out meeting with a Katie from a new study Ken signed up for – Yes another one! Two weeks ago when we met with the Long Term Follow up team, they “declared” him with chronic GVHD. This study will allow them to do extra research and monitor his graft versus host disease symptoms. Today they tested his grip strength and his lung capacity. Even with his tremors shaking the device, his grip was strong. Katie was pleased she didn’t have to explain how to use the spirometer since Ken still uses one every week for the nasal study we do every week. Next we met with Dr. Walter. Since I last wrote about medical things, our medications have gone from list a page and a half long, to only half a page. Today, Dr. Walter eliminated even more. Since his magnesium level has stabilized, we haven’t had to hook Ken up to the IV for about two weeks. It’s been hard to remember some days to flush the catheter lines. Since things have been going well, doctor said “Maybe we should go ahead and take the catheter out.” Hooray! We thought they would schedule an appointment at the hospital because that’s how they put it in. But no, they just yank it out! It was amazing! We hopped down to the 2nd floor and Dr. Petty explained how he would cut his pretty stitches and pull. (He was the one who did the extra stitching needed on the day it was “installed”) That was it – no numbing, no needles, not even a sandbag to put on pressure. Then we were off in the Mustang (the sun was out, so the top was down) and we headed home. Anyone need any saline syringes? I have lots!
Last Sunday I went to the 5th Avenue Theater to see “Menopause, The Musical” with some of the women from Costco’s NW Regional office. Talk about laugh out loud! Most of it is well known songs from the 60s’s and 70’s with new lyrics. I especially liked the ones about become forgetful! I would tell you the hilarious words but I can’t remember!
My team at work had a “bonding” time at “Lucky Strike Lanes” last Thursday. I hope my manager doesn’t hold it against me that I bowled better than he did. I was the only one with my own ball and shoes.
And these last few photos are from my P.E.O. Basket Auction. We raised $4,000 to support our projects to promote women’s education. Linda calls out some raffel ticket numbers.
This cutie pie was so excited to win the Play Dough prize!
Yummy desserts waiting for the "Dessert Dash" I brought a Coconut Cream Pie, but the chocolate ones were the most fought over!
