Frosty says...

"Happy Birthday"! The cartoon classic Frosty the Snowman is especially relevant today as it not only snowed this morning, but today is the one year anniversary of Ken’s transplant. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long. It has been filled with highs and lows. We have had lots of caring friends & family and great doctors & nurses to help us thru this trying time. Here’s the year in review in photos and thoughts.

Here is Dick giving Ken a buzz cut before his hair started falling out due to the chemo drugs prior to transplant. Ken was determined to let his hair grow until he was back to work. It had gotten three or four inches long and very curly. Unfortunately, he had to get it cut shorter recently since something is making it fall out again.

With our many trips to SCCA, we have become very familiar with this view of the Seattle Skyline from the freeway. We’ll be making this trip almost daily next week as Ken does his one-year post transplant testing.

Here’s Dr. Walter who we have been with since the beginning of this ride two years ago. He has been the one constant thru the parade of many doctors we have seen.

Ken is often amazed at the things he doesn’t remember from the 21 days spent at the hospital.

Nurse Lori brings the stem cells exactly one year ago.

The pill case has not changed as much as we had hoped over the last few months. There are still about 30 pills a day plus patches, drops and suspended in corn oil. You name a method to receive meds and Ken has done it. We are crossing our fingers that the Long Term Follow Up doctors will be able to take some away.

This photo was from our Hydro party, but it also represents how Ken has been taking up cooking. He is looking up recipes, trying new things and over all, we are eating a lot better.

Team Never2old raised $11,000 for the Light the Night Walk for Leukemia. Ken made it all three miles around Green Lake in September, but now, due to his muscle weakness from Graft Versus Host Disease he can only make it about a half mile. He is determined to get his strength up to walk with an even bigger team this year.

We’ve welcomed two babies to our extended family and are anxiously awaiting our granddaughter’s arrival in July.

After all the tests and consultations next week, we are hoping the doctors can give us an idea on when Ken can go back to work. Yes - he actually misses it!
