Happy Birthday!

Four years ago today Ken received his life-saving stem-cells. We can not say thank you enough to the teams at SCCA, LTFU, Fred Hutch and UWMC. Without their knowledge, care and compassion Ken would not be here to celebrate another birthday. He would not have been able to get to know our wonderful daughter-in law who lights up the eyes of our son. He would have missed holding the hands of our beautiful grandchildren - Elleanor and Baylor. There are so many things Poppa is looking forward to sharing with them! We are also so very thankful for our friends and family that have been through this journey with us.

There have been many hard days along the way and the doctors tend to scratch their head, and throw a dart at his chart to figure out what is the most critical symptom to treat. At this time, it is his back is causing the most problems with compression fractures. The graph-vs-host seems to be under control and we have stopped two of the major immune suppression drugs. In another month will be the cataract surgery. Will the road be easy ahead? Probably not, but we will take one step at a time, one day at a time, and look forward to many more birthdays!

We have just ordered a book of all our Carepages posts and messages. It starts when Ken transferred to the transplant team in 2008 and ends after my breast cancer treatment in 2010. It will be fun to re-read our thoughts (mainly mine) and the words of encouragement we received along the way.

We are Never2old to help find a cure!
